Czech or Bohemian Terrier is short-legged terrier, little known outside his homeland. It was raised in the mid- 20th century by crossing the Scottish terrier and silihemian, and possibly other terriers.

Czech Terrier was created after the war. The history of this breed begins 1949 in the former Czechoslovakia where Frantisek Horak mated Sealyham terrier with a Scottish terrier and got a breed suitable for hunting in the forests of Bohemia (hence carries the name Bohemian terrier). The result is a sturdy dog that accompanies prey to the den, and it is an excellent hunter of rats. In 1963 this new breed is acknowledged by FCI.

Breeders have tried to preserve the dogs desire to hunt, so they are most rejoiced when the puppies come into the hands of hunters (which is the last time rarely happens).

Czech Terrier fights prudently. It is an excellent hunter of mice. In addition to all the coziness this is also a family dog, which contribute to its conductivity, pleasant temperament and tolerance towards other dogs.

Czech Terrier is a watchdog and easy to train. This dog has short legs, strong and flexible body. Czech Terrier has a long head with well-developed nose, thick beard and lush eyebrows. The eyes are sore and hidden hair may be light or dark hazel. This breed has strong jaws. The ears are hanging and the legs are strong. The tail is horizontal when the dog is in action. The top coat can be gray- white or color of white coffee. It is recommended regular cutting and trimming in order to emphasize long wavy hair which decorates the lower part of the body.

Czech Terrier has characteristics that are different from other terriers. They are of a calmer nature than other terriers. They are very adaptable to various situations and are therefore a good choice for different types of owners. They are capable of long walks. However, they are quite sensitive and they don’t prefer life indoors. These dogs also have a pleasant temperament and tolerance towards other dogs. Czech Terriers are very well understood with children.

Their hair, unlike most terriers, is soft and silky, and the big advantage is that they do not shed. It takes regular brushing and combing to prevent tangles.
